Marie Jarret

Reading Specialist

I have been an educator in New Jersey for over 10 years, holding a Master’s Degree in Elementary and Special Education from Rutgers University. I have always been interested in establishing the foundation of literacy skills, but after receiving formal training in the Orton-Gillingham multisensory program, I transitioned into a role focused exclusively on reading intervention. I now prioritize using multisensory techniques and explicit instruction to help children build a solid reading framework. This work naturally led me to the Montessori philosophy, which beautifully aligns with my belief in mindividualized, hands-on learning. Through my background as a reading interventionist, I saw how powerful it is to meet each child where they are, and I was drawn to Montessori’s deep respect for the child, its emphasis on independence, and its thoughtfully prepared environment that supports authentic skill development. I was especially drawn to Acorn Montessori School because of its warm, collaborative community and its commitment to honoring authentic Montessori principles while fostering a lifelong love of learning. I love working with children and witnessing the moment reading clicks, as their confidence and joy grow alongside their abilities. Outside of work, I enjoy cooking, baking, reading, traveling, Philadelphia Sports, and spending quality time with family and friends. My favorite quote by Maria Montessori is: “Within the child lies the fate of the future.”
